This is me on New Years eve back when my parents still knew everything, all I wanted was to be famous and I collected bugs.
Some of my highlights from 2010:
My graduation show
Graduating
Turning the big 21
OBV the soccer world cup
new friends
old friends
moving out the house
2011 is going to be a biggie for me, moving to Joburg city, leaving many friends behind but excited to make some more, learn more, discover more and maybe start wearing jeans. You never know, you know?
Happy New Year!
I'm not that big on the whole new years party thing. My best friend Natalie and I plan to eat shrimp cocktail, drink mojitos and play sing star while waiting for the clock to strike 2012. What do you have planned?

French plaits, water wings and many hilarious moments. These water babies are Iza and Anouk. We spent some time outside by the pool last week, Iza is brave and jumps right in. Her little sister, however, chooses to whistle on the side of the pool in her tube and wings. Kids are too great! Well, these kids are.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
12 of my dream gifts this year
EVERYTHING from the hui hui Spring/Summer 2011 line.
I gave passes to the boarder, gave my bags straight to the porter
Gave my Zippo as a guiding light
I see smoke upon the water, said the sailor to the daughter
Well I think I need a rubber tonight
And with everybody watching from the top of the sky
A neon bolt of lightening hit me where I found my stride
I found a whole new way to love you
I've got a big surprise
I can't see your eyes but I think you'll like it too
I found a whole new way to love you
My sneak up from behind is gonna blow your mind
But if not this time, we're through
It gets lonesome in the darkness even when I dance with partners
With the DJ playing Leather and Lace
I'll take anything you give me 'cause I know that God forgives me
It's no accident expensive taste
So when everyone got home I got your tail between my legs
We can talk about relationships but there's better things to fill your head with
I found a whole new way to love you
I've got a big surprise
I can't see your eyes but I think you'll like it too
I found a whole new way to love you
My sneak up from behind is gonna blow your mind
But if not this time, we're through
Love and leave it, you take it when you need it
You gotta give and take, ignores the breaks
And baby, they're are not enough ways
You gotta gimme some, get some
Ooh, I found a whole new way to love you
Ooooooh I've found a whole new way to love you
Ooooooh I've found a whole new way to love you
I found a whole new way to love you
I've got a big surprise
I can't see your eyes but I think you'll like it too
I found a whole new way to love you
My sneak up from behind is gonna blow your mind
But if not this time, we're through

I'm moving to Joburg in a short while and I'm going to be like a chicken without a head for the first while. Short girl driving in the big bad city - SO I'll need a map. If I could choose I'd like one of these cool Crumpled City Maps. They're printed on special technological material that makes them super light and they are waterproof. Nifty, huh?

I am saying:
"You should go over here and enter this competition."
But what I'm really saying is:
"Look at this nice picture but don't follow the link and enter the competition so I can be greedy and nasty and win."

Miss Moss does floss
and she posts pretty things too
one of them is about me!
Johannesburg trip 3 - The largest bookstore in the world
So on one of our trips into the city we just quickly made a stop at THE BIGGEST BOOK STORE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE! We didn't really know where to look and down which passage to go in case we disappeared into a labyrinth where David Bowie had a crystal ball. The collectors treasury is truly a well kept secret in Jozi - I think - they also have pretty antiques, but we left empty handed as every item was like a million rand, because they are old old and really are priceless! It sort of makes you dizzy to see so much reading material in one place. Crayzay
Elle Buter's store, Superella opposite the Bamboo Center in main road Mellville is really a treat. The patterns get drawn up and cut right there, by Ella herself [who by the way is a such a SUPER person.] and the garments are stitched up right behind the rails of her ''I have to have this'' clothing, the fact that you get to see everything come together so nicely is brilliant. The whole feel of this brilliantly designed and decorated store is fantastic, from the completely white interior to the hand written garment labels. Ella has such a clean, no fuss design aesthetic which I really do admire; her attention to detail is insanely fabulous. If I wasn't a Permanently poorex-student looking for a job that pays a lot of money, but will settle for being a waitress- I would totally have skipped out of that store with a tractor load of dresses and shirts and pinafores to wear every single day.
Arts on Main is such a fantastic gem of a place. Driving through inner city JHB to get there, AnMari was telling her insanely intelligent boyfriend Wilhelm[who was kind enough to play taxi driver to us newbies] to turn around. We were in the ghetto, yo! You cross the Nelson Mandela bridge from Kansas city into what feels like where JLO is still Jenny. Eventually having done a trillion U-turns, we arrived at AOM. Gollygee, priveleged people who live in Jozi, do yourselves a favour and spend a morning at AOM. The Black Coffee store is too fantastic, with their studio/seamstresses sitting right there. AnMari and I bought ourselves souvenirs in the form of canvas bags, hers from the JHB art fair, mine boasting illustrations on how to get that Soweto style. Sheeshkebab, I sound like a tourist. There was also this crazy weird sound installation exhibition [excuse my french, I don't speak art] that was all these speakers on the wall, and if I stood on my tip toes and closed my one ear I could here this strange form of speech, glossolalia. If you step away and listen to it at once its like what I think God hears when we all send up those 'I need a parking' prayers. Crazy! All in all, what a fantastic place!
