Go Dad, go!

Today is the the first year I have not woken up before the party goers leave the clubs, to sit along the route of the 2 Oceans marathon eating hot cross buns with my mom and sisters. We make a mockery out of the runners legs and strange running style while cheering them along, but all we're really there to do is give my Dad a big 'Go Dad go' when he strides past. Now I'm not there, my mom sends me updates along the way - the latest let me know that Dad is running alongside Bruce Fordyce; so here I am, waiting and hoping to catch a glimpse of Pai on the telly. My Dad is basically one of my favourite people in the world; when I was 11 I cycled my first Argus Cycle tour, which I rode him until I was 16. I hope to say I ran the 2 Oceans alongside him in the next 5 years.

winter warmers

Winter has arrived in Joburg, and its splendid!
Off to Wolves this evening to see my friends,The Pretty Blue Guns sing songs while I drink the best chocolate milkshake in town!

Thanks once again to Desmarais for this lovely image!

Fashion makes you tired

"Far away from the madding crowds of shoppers Marni offered the tired locals and visitors of Milan Design Week the chance to have a rest in the courtyard of its flagship boutique on via della Spiga. The courtyard was transformed for the occasion into a green parlour that tried to recapture the atmosphere of a corner of Milan’s public parks and private gardens with medicinal and kitchen plants in polka dot pots. Tables and chairs made of recycled bases invited the tired shoppers and design fans to sit down and rest for a while surrounded by sounds from nature and images of butterflies, water and blossoming trees created by film artist Sara Rossi." Anna Battista

This is so spectacular.

Haute Couture, Ought to be in my closet

I don't know how this slipped past me, but Oh My! This is good stuff.

There's a forest on my stoep

I spend a lot of time thinking about how I make my tiny balcony garden look like the amazon forest, minus the slimy creatures. Thanks to Kim Gray, I now realize how I can do this. Little by little!

Say Hello to Kahu!

Draw me, draw for me

I'm not so into the whole art thing - not because I don't like it, but because I don't really get that you have to 'get' art. But this, I love! Julie Mehretu makes these spectacular pictures. The flatmate and I are in the middle of our 'above the TV art installation'. Hold thumbs it looks at least half as good as these!

It's been raining non stop for the past two days, which is really my idea of perfect weather. I always seem to spend time on interior sites on days like these. This is what I found and liked.

Blossoms

Another thing I adore about Joburg, is that you can buy two bunches of Snap Dragons for just R25! Can you handle it? If I could I would buy a hundred bunches and hang them from my bedroom ceiling. I bought myself some of these lovelies, but sadly today I am throwing them in the trash. Revoir mes jolies fleurs!

This is how I'll be spending my Saturday! How will you be spending yours?

Kids club

My flatmate, AnMari, made these adorable outfits for two tiny fashion dolls. The 5 & 7 year old girls requested clothing unlike anything they see in the shops.
I'd like one of each in my size; wouldn't you? Take a squizz around her site - then pop her a mail and order your winter wardrobe. You won't want to wear anything else.

Robyn 'Dancing On My Own' SIng along, dance along!

Somebody said you got a new friend
Does she love you better than I can
There's a big black sky over my town
I know where you at, I bet she's around
Yeah I know it's stupid
But I just got to see it for myself

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her
(Oh, oh, oh)
I'm right over here, why can't you see me
(Oh, oh, oh)
I'm givin' it my all, but I'm not the girl you're takin' home
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
I keep dancin' on my own
(I keep dancin' on my own)

I'm just gonna dance all night
I'm all messed up, I'm so out of line
Stilettos and broken bottles
I'm spinning around in circles

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her
Robyn Dancing On My Own lyrics found on http://www.directlyrics.com/robyn-dancing-on-my-own-lyrics.html

(Oh, oh, oh)
I'm right over here, why can't you see me
(Oh, oh, oh)
I'm givin' it my all, but I'm not the girl you're takin' home
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
I keep dancin' on my own
(I keep dancin' on my own)

So far away, but still so near
(The lights go on, the music dies
But you don't see me, standing here
I just came to say goodbye

I'm in the corner watching you kiss her
(Oh, oh, oh)
I'm givin' it my all, but I'm not the girl you're takin' home
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
I keep dancin' on my own
(I keep dancin' on my own)

What once was new is still brand spanking new to me

I know these images are from like, fashion lightyears ago, but I really do love this. It's like someone put an eighties school dance + a stepford housewife + a hardware store in a blender and this is what poured out. Oh how delightful! David West, I ask you with stars in my eyes; why oh why can we not get your clothing in Joburg?

Many thanks to http://www.davidwest.co.za/ for these beauties.

Just shoot me

A royal pain

I used to be a big fan of the idea of being royal, I've since grown up and onto the idea of a life married to John Travolta. I love these pictures I nicked off popbee.

I scream

The bulb in my bedside lamp blew the other night, if I was rich, I would just buy one of these instead of replacing my bulb.

Opening Ceremony

My favourite from the Opening Ceremony 2011 Fall collection. I'm not crazy about this shoot though, would have preferred it a little more if it was a little less. You know what I'm saying?
